The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
For those hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian warned that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction implies that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths only possible with a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can get ready for more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
